Weight Management

Weight management can be a struggle whether you are trying to gain or lose weight. Being overweight can prevent you from having an active and healthy lifestyle and lead to a number of common health issues such as:

  • Fatigue
  • Lack of energy
  • Joint Pain
  • Water Retention
  • Insulin Resistance
  • Hyperglycemia (High Blood Sugar) progressing to Diabetes
  • High cholesterol and triglycerides
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Gastrointestinal disorders- constipation, irregular stools, indigestion

Our weight loss management program is oriented toward helping you obtain both short and long term results. The focus is on helping you manage your food intake both at home, when in restaurants and traveling. Getting results with weight and fat loss requires identifying the lifestyle changes you need, learning how to stay consistent with those changes, getting regular exercise, and tracking your food intake.  All three parts are essential to assist you in seeing results and sustaining a new pattern of healthy behaviors.  Working with a dietitian professional will help you accomplish these lifestyle behavior changes in a step by step approach. “One size does not fit all” and as that relates to our weight management programs, your body and lifestyle needs are unique. All programs we design are individualized for each of our patients.

Your First Nutrition Visit

In your first visit you will learn what your calorie level needs are and what foods to eat at various meals times throughout the day. You will receive a personalized nutrition plan specific to your needs to get you started towards your health and weight goals.

Measurement and Nutrition Assessment Tools to Help You Succeed:

Many patients tell us they have tried everything and nothing has worked for them.

This is where specialized testing can have a favorable impact. There are many types of health related testing that provides further insight into your body’s unique needs and uncover barriers to unresolved body weight issues, either too much or too little. Anthropometric measurements such as BMI, waist-to-hip ratio, calorimetry and bioelectrical impedance are used to assess the size, shape and composition of the human body. These measurement methods are available at our office.

Beyond anthropometric measurements, other testing can identify what nutrients you need. Tests such as micronutrient testing provided by Spectracell Labs, genetic testing by 23andme or Genova Diagnostics, are available at our office and can shed further light on how to improve your body’s function and keep it healthy.

Any of these tests can be implemented at any point during your program, to assist with the best nutrition and nutritional supplement plan for you.
Patients that have completed our Weight Loss Management Program have experienced anywhere from 10-60 lbs. in weight loss without Bariatric Surgery. In addition to weight loss, our patients experience other benefits from nutrition improvement:

Significant waist and hip inch loss

  • More energy
  • Clearer skin
  • Reduce joint pain in wrists, elbows, knees, ankles
  • Greater muscle to fat ratio
  • Improved bowel regularity
  • Greater resistance to colds and flu
  • Reduction of Headaches
  • Reduction of disease markers and inflammation
  • Reduction of need for prescription meds

Nutrition Visit Frequency

Frequency of nutrition visits to see results is based on need and budget. Most people require regular visits every 2-3 weeks for a period of 4-6 months to see results of total weight and fat loss greater than 5-10 lbs. Everyone’s body is not only different, but depending on how many different types of weight loss attempts with meds and or restrictive diets have been tried, the metabolism may need time to be re-regulated. What we as professionals can promise, is that with improved nutrition, and advanced testing as we have available, your body will look better, function better, and you will improve your fat to muscle ratio. It is not a race but learning a new lifestyle. And yes, it is an investment in you.
